Hey everyone!

Since August of 2005, both myself and DJ Kevin have loved bringing you Satori every month. From our humble beginnings at the Savoy to our current venue, the Blank Club in San Jose, it's been a lot of fun spinning the music we love for a terrific audience. Since 2009 started, however, we've had many conflicting club nights with other clubs that many of our patrons attend, like Fate/Revenant, New Wave City, and Temptation, that have affected the attendance. We've tried requesting a more consistent date, but because the Blank Club does mostly live music, it's hard to schedule around bands, so our club date is always moving around to different weeks.

This past Saturday was our last New Wave night, at least for the foreseeable future. We're trying to focus more on Satori, and getting attendance up. Our next night is Saturday, July 25th. We're really hoping for a great turnout, or unfortunately, Satori will be in trouble of going away. So, if you like the club, please show up this month. If you haven't been by for a while, please try and make it. If you've never been, this is the month to come down.

Possibly one of the hardest things is operating in a vacuum. We receive very little feedback about the club, so please let us know what you think about Satori! Either comment on our LiveJournal, MySpace, or Facebook accounts, hit us up on Twitter, or send us an e-mail. If there's something you love or hate, let us know! While we won't be changing the focus of the music of the club, if that's your reason for not coming, we'd love to know. If you love everything about the club, let us know! All feedback is appreciated.

Also, starting in June, Satori will be moving later in the month. With so many clubs stacked that first week of the month, we've asked The Blank Club to start booking us later, so there's less competition with New Wave City and Revenant., as well as all the other clubs around the same time.

Last Saturday (Feb 28th), there was a kitchen fire in my apartment that got out of control, and burned down my apartment. Everyone got out safely, but my girlfriend did suffer some burns on her right hand from trying to put out the fire. I was at work at the time, and you could imagine how scared I was when I got the call from a neighbor's cell phone. The Sunnyvale fire dept. got there quickly and put it out fast, but the damage was done. The kitchen, living room, and bathroom were totally destroyed, along with almost everything in those rooms. The fire didn't get into the bedroom, but the heat and smoke ruined most of the stuff in that room. We were able to save most of our clothes, although they were blackened by soot. Washing has helped, and the majority of them are wearable. I was lucky because the spare bedroom, where I keep my comic collection, action figure, and some of my cds, was pretty much untouched. The door was closed, so it stopped a lot of the smoke and heat from damaging things in that room, although some stuff was damaged. The sad news is that we didn't have renters insurance, so we have no way to regain the value of the items we lost.

We've been lucky since the fire, as we found a nice apartment nearby that allows dogs (our dog got out safely, too!), and my girlfriend's parents and a few of our friends had some extra furniture we could have to furnish the new place. Friends gave us a table, television, and lots of gift cards :) It's been a long and grueling task to clean what we could save from the house, but things are looking up. I also have the luck to be involved with a podcast through the comic store (http://www.geekbox.net), and the listeners donated a good chunk of money to us in order to buy what we need for the new house, including food, towels, toothbrushes, lots and lots of laundry detergent, new coffee maker, toaster, etc etc. There's still a lot we need before it feels like home again, but these things will come in time. We have a bed to sleep in and food to eat, and that's good enough for now.

The Blank Club, the club that hosts Satori every month, wanted to pitch in to help, so they're doing a benefit night for us this Friday. It's $10 to get in, and all the money goes to us. I won't be able to be there all night as I've started back at work, but I will be making an appearance for at least an hour or two. You can find out more at http://www.clubsatori.com.
